Where strategy gets done

AAPHD's standing committees handle the cross-cutting work that supports every council and the Board.

Awards Committee

Manages the nominations and selection process for all AAPHD awards, including merit awards and student recognition. The committee develops criteria, solicits nominations, reviews candidates, and makes recommendations to the Board to ensure awards recognize excellence, service, and impact across the field.

Bylaws Committee

Responsible for ensuring the organization operates in accordance with its bylaws and for leading any updates or amendments as needed. The committee reviews proposed changes, interprets bylaws language, and supports the Board in maintaining sound organizational governance.

DPH Reference Materials Committee

Develops and maintains a curated list of essential dental public health references aligned with the competencies of the specialty. Newly launched, this committee ensures that AAPHD members and the broader dental public health community have access to a current, authoritative body of foundational and emerging literature.

Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) Committee

Works to embed and maintain equity, diversity, inclusion, and justice-building practices into the culture, operations, and programming of AAPHD. The committee develops resources, guides organizational policy, and supports member engagement on EDI issues across all aspects of the association.

Finance Committee

Responsible for ensuring the financial sustainability of AAPHD, including developing and monitoring the annual organizational budget, reviewing financial reports, advising the Board on fiscal policy, and providing oversight of audits and investments.

Foundation Committee

Leads and manages the activities of the AAPHD Foundation, including fundraising campaigns, grantmaking decisions, scholarship administration, and stewardship of named funds. The committee works to grow the Foundation's resources and ensure its programs support the next generation of dental public health professionals.

Joint Reference Committee (JRC)

Composed of the chairs and co-chairs of AAPHD's four councils, the JRC identifies opportunities for collaboration across councils and with the Board. Led by the President-Elect, it serves as a coordination mechanism to align council activities with organizational priorities and to avoid duplication of effort.

Membership Committee

Responsible for AAPHD membership growth and engagement, and for organizing activities that benefit members. The committee oversees outreach and retention strategies, member communications, and efforts to expand AAPHD's reach across dental public health settings and professions.

Nominations Committee

Manages the nominations process and selection of subsequent Board members and elected officers. The committee solicits nominations, reviews candidate qualifications, and ensures the process is transparent, inclusive, and consistent with AAPHD's governance requirements.
