AAPHD's four councils translate expertise into education, scientific resources, advocacy, and workforce-building.
Council on Educational Affairs
The Council on Educational Affairs provides high-quality continuing education opportunities that reflect the latest advances in science and practice in dental public health. It oversees AAPHD's CE programming — including webinars, National Oral Health Conference sessions, and other member learning opportunities — and ensures content remains current, rigorous, and relevant to practitioners across all roles in the field.
Council on Practice and Workforce
The Council on Practice and Workforce monitors and disseminates public health dentistry workforce trends, and engages and supports all types of professionals working in or entering the dental public health field — including dentists, dental hygienists, dental therapists, community health workers, and students. The Council develops resources to help members navigate public health careers and advocates for a diverse, well-prepared workforce that reflects the communities it serves.
Council on Policy and Advocacy
The Council on Policy and Advocacy monitors policy developments relevant to dental public health at the national level and leads AAPHD's work on position statements, resolutions, and advocacy initiatives. The Council translates the association's scientific and professional expertise into actionable policy recommendations, coordinates AAPHD's engagement with federal agencies and partner organizations, and develops tools to help members participate in advocacy at every level of government.
Council on Scientific Information
The Council on Scientific Information develops scientific resources that highlight and summarize evidence on key dental public health issues. Its work includes white papers, issue briefs, and evidence syntheses that inform both the profession and policymakers. The Council also supports AAPHD's relationship with the Journal of Public Health Dentistry and helps members stay current with emerging research in the field.
